Inner Mongolia opened a 24-hour fast track channel for measuring instruments such as thermometers, providing free testing and calibration services, according to information released on Feb 3 from Inner Mongolia's novel coronavirus working group.

The services are being provided by a working group comprising of technical personnel at the Inner Mongolia Metrology and Testing Research Institute.

Officials said the move aimed to resolve instances of inaccurate temperature measurement from thermometers used in some places, which got high attention and sparked heated discussion among netizens.

"At present, human body temperature measuring instruments are mainly divided into two types -- mercury thermometers and infrared body temperature measuring instruments," said Peng Wanzhen, deputy inspector of the Market Supervision Administration of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

"Most netizens reported that infrared body temperature measuring instruments are inaccurate." Peng added.

Currently, the working group has contacted important transportation stations, medical institutions and public places -- such as railway stations, airports, banks and supermarkets -- to provide free on-site instrument testing services.
