Baogang kick-starts key environmental protection project

Baogang Group, the biggest iron and steel manufacturer based in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, kicked off a key ultra-low emissions environmental protection project on March 12, according to a report in the Baotou Daily.

The project for 2020 is focusing on the company's transformation into an ultra-low emissions producer, as represented by its coke oven flue gas desulfurization and denitrification – as well as the rolling out of sintering desulfurization and denitrification, a spokesman for the company said.

In the current year, Baogang Group plans to invest more than 4 billion yuan ($573 million) and will implement 88 environmental projects, funds equal to more than half of its planned investment in technological innovation in infrastructure construction in 2020.

The projects cover waste gas treatment, wastewater treatment, solid waste disposal and other areas.

The spokesman said that after the implementation of the projects, Baogang’s main environmental protection levels will have been be further improved.
