Digital industry boosts Inner Mongolia's economic development

The digital industry in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region has experienced strong development in recent years, becoming a new engine for the region's high-quality economic development.

In the past few years, more than 10,000 5G base stations and 2,500 4G base stations were built in Inner Mongolia, and the penetration rates of fixed broadband and mobile network users reached 85.4 percent and 97 percent, respectively.

In 2020, Inner Mongolia added 80,000 computing servers, bringing its total installed computing servers to more than 1.2 million.

The number of supercomputing platforms in the region increased to four, and the advantages of data storage were gradually transformed into high-density data computing and artificial intelligence computing.

Meanwhile, Inner Mongolia has identified 28 autonomous region-level big data laboratories, engineering research centers, and engineering technology research centers.

The number of high-tech enterprises involved in the digital economy in Inner Mongolia reached 186, accounting for 17.4 percent of the region's total high-tech enterprises.

Additionally, in 2020, the added value of the computer, communications, and other electronic equipment manufacturing industries above designated size in the region increased by 50.1 percent over the previous year.

To date, Inner Mongolia has built one national industrial internet industry platform and 10 at the autonomous region level. It is also home to 15 smart factories and 36 smart workshops. 

The application of digital technology and big data has also benefited government services. Currently, more than 90 percent of government service items can be handled online.
