Poverty relief work for impoverished people living in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region has proven a great success.

To date, all of the 3,681 poverty-stricken villages and 57 poverty-stricken banners in Inner Mongolia were lifted out of poverty, benefiting 1.57 million residents from 580,000 households.

Inner Mongolia has helped residents get out of poverty by relocating places of residence and guaranteeing incomes, basic education, medical care, housing security and access to safe drinking water.

Statistics from the Inner Mongolia Development and Reform Commission show that during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20), Inner Mongolia completed the relocation of 124,700 impoverished people, built 1,135 centralized resettlement areas and 53,100 sets of resettlement houses.

It also constructed 1,934 kilometers of rural roads, 1,465 kilometers of pipeline networks, 7,557 sewage and garbage treatment facilities, and 1,211 new schools, kindergartens, village clinics, village activity rooms and public squares.

The per capita disposable income of farmers and herdsmen in poverty-stricken areas in the region increased from 9,612 yuan ($1,442.16) in 2015 to 13,793 yuan in 2019, an average annual increase of 9.45 percent.

The per capita income of the registered poverty-stricken people increased from 3,019 yuan in 2015 to 10,473 yuan in 2019, an average annual increase of 36.6 percent.

From 2016 to 2020, Inner Mongolia renovated 2,087 schools in poverty-stricken areas and ensured that no students dropped out of school due to poverty during the basic education stage.

Meanwhile, all of the poverty-stricken people in Inner Mongolia have been covered by basic medical insurance, critical illness insurance and medical assistance coverage.

Inner Mongolia renovated 137,000 houses inhabited by impoverished people, and drinking-water safety was guaranteed for 183,000 registered impoverished people.
