Snowfall in Tongliao, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, has broken local records in place since 1951, lasting 46 hours straight as of Tuesday morning.

The total snowfall has amounted to 81.3 mm since 10 am on Sunday, and the depth of snow reached 59 cm, said Hu Xiao, chief meteorological analyst at Weather China.

The cold wave is extremely harmful to livestock. The sharp decline in temperature might cause livestock to suffer from colds, bronchitis and even death, said Zhang Guilian, chief weather forecaster with the Inner Mongolia meteorological service station.

Herdsmen are suggested to pay attention to fodder supplement and cold resistance measures. Farmers are suggested to give more lighting to their greenhouses.
