The city of Tongliao in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, known as a pearl in the hinterland of the Horqin Grassland, has experienced rapid development over the past 10 years.

A series of shining economic and social statistics have proven its achievements.

Agriculture and animal husbandry

In the past 10 years, Tongliao has built a total of 6.07 million mu of high-efficiency, water-saving and high-standard farmland, and the comprehensive mechanization rate of crop cultivation and harvesting has exceeded 88 percent.

During this period, grain in Tongliao has been continuously harvested, and total grain output in 2021 hit 8.98 billion kilograms.

The annual livestock population in Tongliao reached 11.44 million head, and the city was named "China's Grassland Beef Cattle Capital".

Dominant industries

With the steady development of industries such as green coal, electricity, aluminum, corn biopharmaceuticals and traditional Mongolian medicine, and the smooth implementation of 10-billion-yuan projects such as nickel-based new materials and wind power equipment manufacturing, the output value of key industrial chains in Tongliao now accounts for 94 percent of industries above designated size.

Meanwhile, the proportion of new energy installed capacity in Tongliao has reached 47 percent. The scale of strategic emerging industries has expanded as well, and its traditional Mongolian medicine production accounts for more than 50 percent of the country's total.

Ecological civilization construction

Tongliao's forest coverage rate has reached 23.78 percent, and grassland vegetation coverage comes in at 62 percent. It has been awarded the title of "National Green Model City".

In 2021, the proportion of days with good or excellent air quality in the city reached 89.32 percent.

The restoration and management of mines in Tongliao were further advanced as well, and 88 green mines were built.

People's livelihood

In the past 10 years, the urbanization rate of Tongliao's permanent population has reached 50.63 percent, and the city's previous 224,900 registered poverty-stricken people have all been lifted out of poverty.

Meanwhile, a total of 165,000 new urban jobs have been created, and the per capita disposable income of residents in the city has reached 26,657 yuan.

Moreover, education, health, culture, sports, housing, pensions, social security and other livelihood measures in both urban and rural areas in Tongliao have seen comprehensive progress.

The coverage of urban employee endowment insurance, work-related injury insurance, unemployment insurance, and basic medical insurance has reached 583,000, 251,500, 244,500 and 2.73 million, respectively.
