Li Baoquan: Provides solutions for hydrogen energy development

2023-02-28 (chinadaily.com.cn)

Li Baoquan, a member elected to the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) for the first time this year, is refining his proposal on accelerating the development of the hydrogen energy industry.

Li is the person in charge of the hydrogen storage materials department of the functional materials research institute, which is affiliated with the Baotou Research Institute of Rare Earths.

After graduating from Yanshan University in 2004, Li joined the Baotou Research Institute of Rare Earths and is mainly engaged in the development of rare earth hydrogen storage materials.

Over the last 20 years, he has solved many bottleneck problems in the field of hydrogen storage.

In the past few days, Li and his team members have been busy installing and debugging subsystems such as solid-state hydrogen storage, fuel cells, and high-performance energy storage batteries.

Once the subsystems are commissioned and have been put into operation, they can successfully solve key technical problems such as the efficient and stable operation of light, hydrogen, electricity and heat.

"Before the project joint test was completed, energy companies had already approached us looking for cooperation. The project's prospects exceed our expectations." Li said.

The full name of the project mentioned by Li is the "High-energy-density Rare Earth Hydrogen Storage Material and its Renewable Energy Storage and Conversion Technology Demonstration" project.

This project focuses on technologies used for rare earth, hydrogen energy, energy storage, new materials, and new energy fields.

Research on such key technologies will play a positive role in improving the balanced utilization of rare earth resources, promoting advanced clean energy technologies, and expanding the market for renewable energy and rare earth applications.

"Rare earth is an important strategic resource in my country and a key industry in the autonomous region. I have high hopes for rare earth hydrogen storage materials." Li added.
