According to information from the China Railway Hohhot Bureau, the summer travel season of 2023 began on July 1 and will last until Aug 31, spanning a total of 62 days.

During this period, the Hohhot bureau anticipates serving approximately 7.9 million passengers, averaging 127,000 daily passengers. This represents a 5.5 percent increase compared to the same period in 2019. Passenger traffic is expected to peak in mid-to-late July and late August.

Based on big data analysis of passenger flows, this year's summer travel season is dominated by students, tourists, family visits, and business travel. Most tourist traffic is concentrated on Beijing, Dalian, Qingdao, and Xi'an destinations. Short-distance travel mainly occurs between Hohhot, Baotou, and Ordos.

To increase capacity and ensure passengers' safety, convenience, and comfort, Hohhot bureau is to add temporary and peak-time trains, operate eight long-distance temporary passenger trains from Hohhot to Xi'an, and increase the frequency of high-speed trains to Beijing.

In addition, another six special tourist trains will be operated, with destinations including Arxan, Hulunbuir, Harbin, and Heihe.
