Inner Mongolia accelerates construction of high-speed railway networks
According to the Inner Mongolia Department of Transportation, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region is continuing its efforts to expand its major high-speed railway network to enhance travel convenience and boost economic development.
By 2025, the total operational railway mileage in the region is projected to reach 15,000 kilometers, with 1,000 km dedicated to high-speed railways. Future plans aim to establish interconnected high-speed railway networks both within and beyond the region, covering all cities and leagues with high-speed railways and providing a conventional railway network backbone that spans all counties in the region.
Given Inner Mongolia's elongated shape from east to west, its major cities are arranged in a transverse pattern, maintaining close economic ties with the central cities of neighboring provinces and autonomous regions.
The regional railway construction plan adopts the concept of rapid connection based on proximity. This has already seen the completion of high-speed railways such as the Hohhot-Beijing, Chifeng-Chaoyang, Tongliao-Shenyang, and Ulanhot-Changchun lines, contributing to the integration of Hohhot, Baotou, Ordos, and Ulaanqab with the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.
By the end of 2023, the total operational railway mileage in the region had reached 14,800 km, including 548 km of high-speed railways, ranking first in the country.
The railway network density in Inner Mongolia stands at 125 km per 10,000 square kilometers, providing strong support for the high-quality development of the region's economy and ensuring the transportation convenience for its residents.
At present, the construction of the Baotou-Yinchuan and Jining-Datong-Taiyuan high-speed railways is progressing rapidly.
The project for the transformation of the Ulaanhot-Arxan-Hailar railway into a high-speed rail route is proceeding in an orderly manner. The electrification transformation of the Jining-Tongliao railway route is in full swing. Additionally, the renovation project for the Fuxin-Jiamusi line has also entered the construction phase.
