According to the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Regional Department of Transport, 5,500 kilometers of rural roads have been constructed in the region so far this year, surpassing the annual target by 10 percent.

Since 2014, Inner Mongolia has focused on building, managing, maintaining, and operating rural roads effectively. The "four good rural roads" initiative has been a crucial strategy for coordinating urban and rural development, improving public welfare, supporting comprehensive rural vitalization, and promoting common prosperity.

By the end of 2023, the total length of rural roads in Inner Mongolia had reached 177,000 km.

Looking ahead, Inner Mongolia plans to launch a new round of rural road improvement efforts in 2025. It aims to upgrade the main rural road network, accelerate the construction of industrial and tourism roads, and integrate these roads with supporting facilities, industrial parks, and tourist attractions.

Efforts will also focus on ensuring that villages with larger populations have access to double-lane roads and that more villages have paved roads.

"In 2025, we plan to start construction on over 4,000 km of rural roads," said Zhang Hongwei, an official from the Inner Mongolia department of transport.

Additionally, Inner Mongolia will continue the "roads for desert control' initiative, with plans to build over 2,000 km of roads through desert areas, facilitating the reclamation of 3.3 million mu (220,000 hectares) of desert land in 2025.
