Inner Mongolia fosters 20 leading transportation enterprises in 2024
North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region strengthened its modern transportation and logistics sector by fostering 20 enterprises each with annual output values exceeding 500 million yuan ($68.07 million) in 2024, according to the region's department of transportation.
This initiative marks a significant step forward in enhancing the efficiency and quality of transportation and logistics services.
In May 2024, the department issued the Action Plan for Cultivating Leading Enterprises in Modern Transportation and Logistics, with the goal of having more than 50 leading enterprises in the sector by 2026. The plan also targets a 6 percent reduction in logistics costs per unit of cargo turnover.
In so doing, a leadership enterprise database has been established, currently listing 91 enterprises offering rail, road, air, and postal services. Among them, 20 have achieved the target of over 500 million yuan in annual revenue.
Meanwhile, efforts to optimize logistics operations have been bolstered by collaborative initiatives involving transportation, public security, and postal authorities. These include improving urban delivery access for new energy vehicles and addressing the "last-mile" challenge in logistics.
Additionally, multi-modal transport systems are being developed, with advancements in "one-ticket" and "one-container" solutions. A comprehensive monitoring platform for multi-modal transport has been launched, and is being tested by 19 enterprises. In 2024, these enterprises collectively completed 36,000 waybills and transported 45.03 million tons of cargo.
Looking ahead, the department plans to sustain enterprise growth in 2025 by offering support in areas such as resource matchmaking, data provision, real-world applications, infrastructure, service optimization, and policy implementation.
The department will also regulate the development of online freight platforms and encourage key enterprises in rail, road, air, and postal sectors to transition into multi-modal transport operators, aiming to enhance the overall efficiency of the transportation network and reduce logistics costs across society.
