Inner Mongolia plans future water conservancy projects
The Inner Mongolia Department of Water Resources released the Action Plan for Planning Major Water Conservancy Projects in Inner Mongolia on March 7.
The plan outlines five key areas: construction of backbone water network projects, improvements to flood prevention and disaster mitigation systems, rural vitalization, ecological restoration of rivers and lakes, and advancement of smart water management.
A total of 24 project categories have been identified, with a planned investment of nearly 200 billion yuan ($27.70 billion).
For 2025, Inner Mongolia aims to secure water conservancy investments exceeding 18 billion yuan, marking a 10 percent increase in major project investments compared to 2024.
During the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-30), 500 major projects with a total investment of 180 billion yuan will be planned, maintaining an average annual investment growth rate of 8 percent.
The plan is based on strategic frameworks, including water network construction, comprehensive river basin planning, flood control strategies, and specialized plans. It considers local conditions, resource availability, and socio-economic development needs, ensuring food security, flood control, water supply, and ecological safety.
