Hohhot, Baotou, and Ordos cities in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region have been listed among China's top 100 cities for innovation capacity, according to the 2025 Report on Innovation Capacity of National Innovative Cities released by the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China. The three cities ranked 66th, 93rd, and 97th, respectively.

As the region's economic and technological front-runners, the cities concentrate more than half of Inner Mongolia's innovation resources and serve as key engines for industrial development and the cultivation of new quality productive forces.

The regional science and technology authorities have intensified policy support, promoted institutional innovation, implemented major science and technology programs, and built innovation platforms to advance coordinated innovation and deepen integration between innovation and industrial chains.

Going forward, Inner Mongolia will accelerate efforts to establish a national independent innovation demonstration zone centered on Hohhot, Baotou, and Ordos.

Leveraging local strengths and distinctive industries, the region aims to enhance the trio's leading and spillover effects, drive Inner Mongolia's overall innovation capacity, and foster a coordinated, complementary, and high-quality regional innovation landscape.
