Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of China, appointed Meng Tian, the state’s military commander, and his 300,000 soldiers to build the Great Wall.
Spanning a distance of about 120 kilometers, the Great Wall was built to defend against attacks by enemies (in particular, the Xiongnu tribe of ancient China). Now it is a comprehensive tourism site that integrates historical defense construction and culture with education, scenery and recreation, giving tourists a taste of war in ancient times.
