Darhan Muminggan Joint Banner

Darhan Muminggan Joint Banner is one of 19 border banners (cities) and 33 animal husbandry banners found in Inner Mongolia. It spans an area of 18,177 square kilometers and has a population of 120,400, of which 17,300 belong to the Mongolian ethnic group.

The district covers 16,600 sq km of grassland and 662,000 sq km of farmland. It spares no efforts in the development of modern agriculture and animal husbandry. Its irrigation area has reached 160,000 mu (106.67 sq km) and 93 percent of the potato plantation area benefits from the use of machines, 60 percentage points higher than the national average level.

The banner has issued a series of preferential policies to facilitate new-type industrialization. A number of downstream production lines concerning steel making and rolled steel have been put into operation.

Barun industrial park, located in the Darhan Muminggan Joint Banner, has achieved a mining production capacity of 15 million tons overall; 4.5 million tons in ore dressing, 20 million tons in wastewater conveying and 5.5 million tons in pulp conveying. The park has become a leading industrial park in China and is the home of several advanced technologies, including “the most advanced automatically-control technology in ore dressing.”

The district features many historical attractions and a range of cultural scenery, including Xilamuren Grassland, cliff paintings from Ulanqab, and the Great Walls constructed during the Han Dynansty (206 BC-AD 24) and North Wei Dynansty (AD 386-557). It holds a nomadic culture tourism festival every summer, attracting many tourists throughout the world.

Darhan Muminggan Joint Banner will make good use of its advantages to become an important part in China’s efforts to open up to neighboring countries.
