Ma’an Mountain Scenic Area

Located some 58 kilometers southeast of Guyang county, in Baotou in North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region, the Ma’an Mountain Scenic Area is a national level natural reserve.

Local officials say the mountain is 1,984 meters above sea level.

Ma’an in Mandarin means horse saddle, for the mountain appears to be in the shape of a saddle, looking up from its base.

Being part of the Jiufeng Mountain Natural Reserve,  Ma’an Mountain boasts the beauty of a primeval forest.

The valley is covered by more than 400 hectares of primeval and secondary forests.

Officials say the fall is the best season for mountain sightseeing.

Traffic guide:

1. Public transportation:

Depart from Hondlon Bus Station (Baotou Bus Terminal) in Baotou and get off at Guyang Station, then take a taxi to Ma'an Mountain Scenic Area.

2. Route by car:

Downtown → Drive about 60 kilometers along Guyang Avenue → Drive 24 kilometers along S311 Provincial Highway → Head south for about 5 kilometers to get to the scenic area.
