Hondlon district

Hondlon district is situated in the downtown area of Baotou city, in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region. It is the economic, cultural, scientific and educational center of Baotou.
The district covers an area of 301 square kilometers and houses a total population of 786,100. A total of 44,109 residents are ethnic minorities, including 24,036 from the Mongolian ethnic group.
It has jurisdiction over two towns, 13 sub-districts, 24 administrative villages and 78 communities.

Companies in the area include those in the financial capital and high-tech industries including Baogang Group, the largest iron and steel manufacturer based in the autonomous region.
Three dominant industries -- steel, rare earth and stainless steel processing -- are to be found in the district. The Baotou Metal Deep-Processing Zone has been approved as a specialized hi-tech industrial base in Inner Mongolia autonomous region and a national industrialized demonstration base for rare earth and steel deep processing.

There are currently three institutions and universities in the district, including Inner Mongolia University of Science & Technology and eight research institutes -- among them China Metallurgical Group (Baotou) Steel Design & Research Institute.
There are currently 59 primary and secondary schools in Hondlon, with a total of 96,431 students and 6,956 faculty members.
Hondlon district boasts a beautiful and livable urban environment. The green coverage in the built-up areas in the district is currently above 40 percent and the per capita green area is 12 square meters.
