Work on a lithium ion battery anode material project funded by Inner Mongolia Shanshan Technology Co has begun in Jiuyuan district, Baotou, North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region, according to a Sept 9 Baotou Daily report.

The project, with an investment of 3.8 billion yuan ($554 million), is to produce 100,000 tons of lithium ion battery anode material annually upon completion.

The project involves building anode materials production lines including coke raw material processing, natural graphite raw material processing, low temperature modification, carbonization, graphitization, finished product processing, testing, packaging, and storage.

For the graphitization process, a base with an annual output of 50,000 tons will be located in Jiuyuan Industrial Park. It will draw a total investment of 1.2 billion yuan, covering an area of 350 mu (23.3 hectares).

After being put into production, it is estimated that the annual profit and tax revenue will reach 90 million yuan.
