Baotou customs to promote 'double admissions'

Updated: 2021-01-18

Baotou customs will promote the "double admissions" procedure when dealing with imports, according to local media reports.

This method of handling imports was used recently when a consignment of 244,000 metric tons of Australian iron ore worth 173.8 million yuan ($26.1 million) passed through customs.

The "double admissions" procedure consists of two phases. First, after being taxed, the imported goods are allowed to leave the port. Then, after reaching their destination, the goods get inspected again before gaining market admission. Local customs will determine whether the products meet market standards.

This type of admission system is designed to optimize the business environment for foreign trade, giving special attention to imports from countries with higher numbers of COVID-19 cases. Meanwhile, it allows goods from safer regions to go through customs at a faster pace, and reduces the likelihood of businesses incurring costs if their goods get held up.

By using this procedure, local authorities hope to offer more efficient services. Companies are required to coordinate with the local government and report any issues promptly, allowing the government to better monitor the import process.
